Former RDB CEO Takes the Helm as NBA Africa’s New Chief

by ABAYIZERA Joselyne December 28, 2023 394 0 Comment

n a move that marks a pivotal moment for both African basketball and female leadership, Rwanda’s own Clare Akamanzi has been appointed as the new CEO of NBA Africa. Akamanzi, who led the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) to remarkable success over the past six years, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the helm of the NBA’s African operations.

Akamanzi’s career trajectory is nothing short of inspiring. A renowned lawyer and public administrator, she played a key role in transforming Rwanda’s economy, spearheading initiatives that boosted tourism, investment, and private sector growth. Under her leadership, Rwanda not only established itself as a premier business destination but also became a leader in sports development, hosting the inaugural Basketball Africa League (BAL) and fostering partnerships with global giants like Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

Akamanzi’s appointment signals a new era for NBA Africa, one defined by strategic growth and a deep commitment to the continent’s burgeoning basketball talent. Her understanding of the African market, combined with her proven track record in economic development and sports engagement, positions her to drive the NBA’s ambitious expansion plans across the continent.

Akamanzi’s rise to the top also represents a significant win for female leadership in the male-dominated world of sports. Her appointment as the first woman to lead NBA Africa sends a powerful message of inclusivity and empowerment, paving the way for future generations of women in sports leadership roles.

With Akamanzi leading the charge, NBA Africa is poised to enter an exciting new chapter. Her passion for the game, coupled with her exceptional leadership skills, promises to unlock the full potential of African basketball and inspire a new generation of players and fans across the continent.
